Dear Friends,
We are delighted to present to you the first vintage of our Camarcanda wine, 20 years since its first
release.
Unlike Piedmont, where indigenous varieties have deep and historic roots, Bolgheri is a younger Italian
appellation that has quickly become a benchmark for the cultivation of international varieties.
The Bolgheri area is intriguing, but not without contrasts: its wild, untamed woods push up against the
peaceful waves of the Mediterranean sea, resulting in voluptuous, yet firmly structured, long-lived
wines born from this charming land.
The Ca’Marcanda winery, founded in 1996, is the result of the enduring commitment of five
generations of the Gaja family. It starts with understanding the soil, interpreting the land, and
thoughtfully managing the vineyards. The result is true synergy between the vine and its natural habitat.
The vineyards dedicated to the production of Camarcanda wine are located at the foot of the
Metalliferous Hills, whose soil is the richest in limestone, clay and pebbles in the entire propriety. From
this site, we create a fine, elegant, yet powerful wine, which we are pleased to present to you with this
first release of the “Camarcanda, 20 years on” collection.
The 2000 vintage was warm, resulting in wines with a great structure, roundness and awesome power.
An aging period of over 20 years improved this wine by adding complexity, balance and depth.
2000 Camarcanda is characterized by intriguing notes of spice with characteristic hints of
Mediterranean scrub. This wine retains a vibrant freshness and a lingering finish with a full and rich
quality.
